“Madeline has what it takes to be the next massive female superstar. Not just in Canada, but the world.”
– Mark Patric, 93.7 JRfm, Vancouver, BC
Wednesday, February 19th – TORONTO – RGK Entertainment Group and CCMA Record Company of the Year, Open Road Recordings, are pleased to announce the signing of B.C. based artist Madeline Merlo. This multi-level deal will include management, promotion and label services.
Hailing from Maple Ridge, BC, 20-year old Merlo “has it all” says RGK/Open Road President Ron Kitchener. “The voice, the heart, the songs – her potential has no limits. We could not be more excited to welcome Madeline officially to the family and introduce her to the world.”
Merlo’s first single “Sinking Like A Stone” hit iTunes worldwide this week and will be released to country radio next Tuesday, February 25th. CMT Canada will premiere the video exclusively on Tuesday, March 4th, as part of a two-week “Fresh Face” artist campaign.
Local buzz has been swirling around Merlo for months – but recently skyrocketed when her hometown station (93.7 JRfm Vancouver) selected “Sinking Like A Stone” to be featured in their weeknight New Country Challenge. The song received a massive response, winning five consecutive nights – and was promptly added to rotation.
In a blog post entitled “Introducing…” [Merlo] on JRfm’s website, 93.7 promotion director Terra Lindsay writes: “Madeline’s voice is unique, comfortable and strangely familiar. Her energy is undeniably positive. She is poised beyond her years and confidently humble. There’s something about her that not a lot of others have. “Sinking Like a Stone” was in my head for weeks after I heard it. It’s bright, smart, clean, interesting, intricate and so easy to listen to. The instrumentation perfectly complements her stripped down vocal.”
Merlo heads to Nashville to perform at CRS (Country Radio Seminar), before traveling back home to prepare for her biggest gig to date: Opening for Dean Brody on his Crop Circles & Tractor Beams Tour, on February 22nd in Abbotsford, BC. “To think that I have a single on iTunes this week and will be opening for Dean Brody on Saturday is beyond comprehension,” says Merlo, who was playing coffee houses in 2012.
“I used to play for just a few people. I would sing for anyone who would listen! My father was a musician and I think it’s in my DNA to be an artist.”
“I am so excited to release my new music into the world, and I have to thank my RGK and Open Road family for helping make my dreams come true. My heart is bursting!”
