Newfoundland Native Tara Oram Holds Benefit For Communities Affected by Hurricane Igor

Canadian Country Music Award winning artist Tara Oram is proud to announce Oram and Friends, a benefit she helped organize to raise money for her family, friends and fans back home who were affected by Hurricane Igor. Oram and Friends will take place in Kitchener, Ontario at Dallas Nightclub on October 24 between 2-7pm. The evening will be hosted by actress and radio personality Sam Cook and includes a Johnny Cash tribute and performances by country music artists Marshall Dane, Brad James, Tonya Kennedy.

“The day Hurricane Igor hit Newfoundland, I knew from seeing the footage on the news that this was going to change the lives of so many of my fellow Newfoundlanders and their communities,” says Oram. “I’m really lucky to have so many wonderful friends and volunteers that want to help out with the Oram and Friends benefit show.”

In 2007, Oram auditioned for the fifth season of Canadian Idol, earning a 6th place finish on the hit reality show. In 2008 CMT offered Oram her own reality TV series The Tara Diaries. In addition, she hosted her very own Christmas special The Night Before Christmas that aired on CMT.

The passionate and hardworking artist’s 2008 debut album Chasing the Sun earned numerous awards and accolades. In 2009, Oram received an East Coast Music Award for Country Recording of the Year, a JUNO Award nomination for Country Recording of the Year and a Canadian Country Music Award in the category of Rising Star.

As of late, Oram has been keeping busy as the spokesperson for Sparkles of Hope, a campaign in support of the Dr. H Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation. In November, Oram returns to work on material for her much anticipated sophomore album slated for release in 2011. On October 19, Oram performed at We Stand On Guard, a multi-artist, televised benefit show, put together by concerned citizens of Newfoundland and Labrador to raise funds for continued recovery efforts.

Most recently, Oram collaborated with several well known artists including Terri Clarke, Dean Brody and Emerson Drive on the much anticipated single Standing Strong and True (For Tomorrow). The single was released to radio and video outlets on October 18 and is dedicated to our fallen Canadian soldiers and their families, with all proceeds raised going to two special funds – the Military Families Fund and Boomer’s Legacy.
