Kicks Off The RISER Tour With U.S. Country Artist Dierks Bentley This Weekend
Toronto, ON (October 15, 2014) – JUNO Award nominated, country music star Tim Hicks has enjoyed an undeniably huge year and shows no signs of slowing down. Hot on the heels of receiving his first Canadian Country Music Association Award for Rising Star, Hicks joined The Tragically Hip last Wednesday (10/18), at Yonge-Dundas Square to play for more than 25,000 fans in downtown Toronto during an outdoor concert celebrating the start of the NHL 2014-15 season.
This weekend, Hicks joins U.S. Country artist Dierks Bentley to kick off the Canadian leg of the RISER Tour beginning in Edmonton, AB (10/18), and will bring the thunder to major markets across Canada. Additionally, it was announced that Hicks will headline the 2014 Grey Cup Roar on the Shore concert series on November 28th in Vancouver, BC.
It hasn’t always been high profile concerts and events for this St. Catharines, ON native. Hicks started his music career humbly, playing to partygoers and small crowds alike, hitting the pavement and never saying “no” to a gig. After 10,000 hours performing in bars and on small stages, fast forward to 2013, 250,000 downloads later, multiple sold-out tour dates across the country and Hicks became the #1 highest selling digital Canadian Country Artist of the Year for his debut album Throw Down, as well as the Most Played Debut Artist overall at Country radio.
Since then, Hicks’ career has taken on a life of its own, with four Top 10 singles, nearly 3 million YouTube hits, two JUNO Award nominations and his third gold-certified single (with the viral hit “Stronger Beer”). Hicks is a multiple nominee, performer, and winner at the CCMAs and this is only the beginning. After performing at numerous large-scale festivals, including the 2014 Boots & Hearts Music Festival, where Hicks played alongside Lee Brice and Luke Bryan to a crowd of 35,000+, he continues to gain momentum.
Hicks sophomore album 5:01 (Open Road Recordings/Universal Music Canada) debuted at #1 on the SoundScan Country Album sales chart, making this Hicks’ first #1 country album and cementing his status as the biggest country music act we’ve seen this decade.
